Free tool · Meta description generator
Meta description generator: three options for any page.
Enter a page address or describe the page, and get three meta descriptions of 120 to 155 characters, each with a live count and a Google-style preview.
What it does
With a page address, the meta description generator reads the page title, the H1, the first real paragraph and the description you have now. With a topic, it works from what you type.
It then writes three different options:
- 120 to 155 characters each, so the main point is not cut off in results.
- Keyword early, in the first part of the sentence, worded naturally. Add your own keyword or let the tool pick one.
- Three angles: one leads with the benefit, one with a concrete detail, one ends with a soft call to action.
- Only facts from the page. No invented prices, discounts or shipping terms.
Every option is editable. The character count and the Google-style preview update as you type.
Why it matters
The meta description is the short text under your title in search results. It is often the text people read before they decide to click, so it shapes how much traffic a ranking brings.
When a page has no description, or the same one as every other page, Google picks a piece of the page on its own, and that piece is rarely your best pitch.
How to use the result
- Pick the option that fits the page best and edit it until it sounds like you.
- Paste it into the SEO field of the page. On Shopify, that is "Search engine listing" at the bottom of the product, collection or page editor. On Wix, it is in the page's SEO settings.
- Write a different description for every important page. Start with best sellers and top collections.
- Then check the title, H1 and social tags of the same page with the meta tag checker.
Questions
How long should a meta description be?
Google has no fixed limit, and it trims snippets by display width, not by a set number of characters. Keeping it between about 120 and 155 characters means the full message usually shows on desktop and mobile.
Do meta descriptions affect rankings?
Their main job is the click: a clear description that matches the search makes people more likely to choose your result over the one above it.
Why does Google show different text than my meta description?
Google sometimes writes its own snippet from the page when it thinks other text answers the search better. A specific description that matches the page makes it more likely Google uses yours.
Should every page have its own meta description?
Yes. Repeated descriptions make pages look alike in results, so nobody can tell which one answers their search.
Is the meta description generator free?
Yes. No sign-up, 10 runs a day from one connection.
