Instagram engagement rate calculator: is your audience paying attention?

Enter a public Instagram username and see its engagement rate on recent posts, compared with a healthy floor for its size.

What it does

The calculator reads a public profile's latest posts and works out the engagement rate: the average of (likes + comments) / followers per post. It also shows followers, posts analyzed, average likes, average comments, the best post with a link, how often the account posts, and whether it is a business, creator or personal account.

The result is compared with TAMEYO Group's working benchmark by audience size: 1.5% under 10K followers, 1.0% under 100K, 0.5% under 1M and 0.3% above that. These floors are TAMEYO Group's own rule of thumb, not Instagram numbers; Instagram does not publish benchmarks.

Prefer not to enter a username? Switch to "Enter numbers" and type followers, likes and comments yourself.

Why it matters

Follower count says how many people could see a post. Engagement rate says how many care. A store with 5K engaged followers often sells more than one with 50K who scroll past.

The rate is also the quickest way to check an influencer before you pay for a post: a large account with very low engagement reaches fewer people than its follower count suggests.

How to use the result

  • Below the floor? Look at the best post and make more like it: same format, topic or hook.
  • Check posting frequency. Long gaps usually lower engagement on the next posts.
  • Run the check every few weeks on your own account and on two or three competitors.
  • When vetting an influencer, compare the rate with accounts of a similar size, not with bigger or smaller ones.

Questions

How is Instagram engagement rate calculated?

Here: for each recent post, likes plus comments divided by followers, then averaged. Some tools divide by reach instead, but reach is visible only to the account owner in Instagram Insights.

What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?

It depends on audience size: smaller accounts usually have higher rates. We use TAMEYO Group's working floors of 1.5%, 1.0%, 0.5% and 0.3% by follower band. Instagram does not publish an official benchmark.

Can I check a private account?

No. Posts on a private account are not public, so there is nothing to calculate. You can still use the manual mode with numbers from your own Insights.

Why are some posts left out?

Posts with hidden like counts are left out, because a hidden count would pull the average down unfairly.

How many checks can I run?

Five username checks a day from one connection. The manual mode has no limit.
