Sitemap generator: a clean sitemap.xml in a minute.

Enter your website and get a sitemap.xml built from the pages we can actually reach, ready to download.

What it does

The generator starts at your homepage, adds any addresses your current sitemap lists, and follows links to pages on the same site, level by level. It fetches up to 6 pages at a time, stops at 300 addresses or about 45 seconds, and reads your robots.txt first.

It leaves out addresses with tracking parameters (utm_, gclid, fbclid and similar), files that are not pages (images, PDFs, scripts), pages robots.txt blocks for all crawlers, redirects, noindex pages and pages whose canonical points to another address. It counts what it found, skipped and failed.

The result follows the sitemaps.org format. A lastmod date is added only when your server sent a real Last-Modified date for the page.

Why it matters

A sitemap tells search engines which addresses you want found. Google can discover pages through links, but a sitemap helps new pages, deep pages and sites with few links get crawled.

Shopify and Wix create a sitemap for you at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml and keep it up to date as you add products and pages. If you are on one of them, submit that one. A generated sitemap mainly helps custom-built sites and sites whose platform does not make one.

How to use the result

  • Download the file and upload it to the root of your site so it opens at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml.
  • Add a line to robots.txt: Sitemap: https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml.
  • Submit it in Google Search Console under Indexing > Sitemaps.
  • Read the skipped and failed counts. Many failed pages point to broken links; pages you expected but do not see may be blocked or not linked from anywhere.
  • A generated file does not update itself. Build it again when you add or remove pages.

Questions

Do I need a sitemap?

Not always. A small site with good internal links can be crawled without one. A sitemap helps when the site is new, large, or has pages with few links pointing to them.

Where is my Shopify or Wix sitemap?

At /sitemap.xml on your domain, for example yourstore.com/sitemap.xml. Both platforms create and update it on their own.

How many URLs can one sitemap hold?

Up to 50,000 URLs or 50 MB uncompressed, per the sitemaps protocol. Larger sites split it into several files listed in a sitemap index. This free tool stops at 300 addresses.

Should I add priority and changefreq?

This tool leaves them out to keep the file lean. It adds lastmod only when your server reports one, so every date in the file is real.

Why are some of my pages missing?

The crawler reaches pages through links, so pages nothing links to are found only if your current sitemap lists them. Pages blocked by robots.txt, marked noindex, or redirected are left out on purpose.
