Readability checker: see where readers slow down.

Paste any text and see its Flesch score, grade level, long sentences, passive voice hints and reading time, checked in your browser.

What it does

The readability checker runs fully in your browser. Your text is not sent anywhere. For English text it shows:

  • Flesch Reading Ease, from 0 to 100. Higher is easier.
  • Flesch-Kincaid grade, the US school grade the text reads at.
  • Average sentence length and every sentence over 25 words, marked in your text.
  • Passive voice hints, from a simple pattern match. Treat them as hints, not errors.
  • Adverbs: words ending in -ly, often a sign a stronger verb would do.
  • Word count and reading time, at about 230 words a minute.

For Hebrew text it shows sentence length, long sentences, word count and reading time. The Flesch formulas count English syllables, so they do not apply to Hebrew.

Why it matters

People scan product pages and emails on their phones. Long sentences and heavy words make them work harder, and people who have to work hard leave. Most store copy reads best around grade 8 or lower, with a Flesch score of 60 or more.

A score is a guide, not a goal. A short, plain sentence that says the wrong thing is still wrong.

How to use the result

  • Start with the marked sentences. Split each one where the idea turns.
  • Look at the passive hints. Rewrite the ones where the reader should know who does what: "your order is shipped" becomes "we ship your order".
  • Cut adverbs that a better verb can replace.
  • Check again. Aim for steady improvement, not a perfect number.

Questions

What is a good Flesch Reading Ease score?

Between 60 and 70 is plain English that most adults read easily. Above 70 is easier still. Below 50 starts to feel hard for general readers.

What does the Flesch-Kincaid grade mean?

It estimates the US school grade needed to follow the text. Grade 8 means a typical 13 to 14 year old could read it.

Does readability affect SEO?

Google has not said it uses a readability score to rank pages. Clear text helps people stay, understand and buy, which is the point of the page.

Does the readability checker work in Hebrew?

Partly. It shows sentence length, long sentences, word count and reading time for Hebrew. Flesch scores are built for English syllables, so it does not show them for Hebrew.

Is my text stored or sent anywhere?

No. The check runs in your browser and the text stays on your device.
