What it checks
The generator reads your homepage for the site name and description, finds your sitemap through robots.txt (or at /sitemap.xml), and groups the addresses it lists: main pages, collections, products, blog posts and policies.
It then reads the titles of the most important pages so each link has a real name. The result follows the llms.txt proposal: a # title, a > summary line, and ## sections of links.
Why it matters
llms.txt is a proposed file that gives AI tools a short, clean map of a site instead of making them crawl every page. It is still a proposal, and not every AI company reads it. It costs little to add, and it makes you state clearly which pages matter.
How to fix it
- Copy the draft and read it line by line. Rewrite the summary in your own words.
- Remove pages that do not help a buyer, and add a short description after each important link.
- Save it as a plain text file named llms.txt at the root of your site, so it opens at yoursite.com/llms.txt.
- On Shopify, a file cannot be uploaded to the root directly. Store owners usually add a URL redirect from /llms.txt to a hosted copy of the file, or use an app that serves it.
